Correspondence, 1806-1810; the folder also contains a letter written in 1836 by another person of the same name, about social life in New York City. Some letters are to her mother, Lydia Van Schaack, and discuss religious matters, and friends and family, including her mother's second husband, Francis Silvester. There are also several letters to Sarah Louisa Jay, and other friends of her own age. A diary kept by Catherine Van Schaack during the summers of 1809 and 1810, while attending Miss Pierce's school in Litchfield (Conn.) and Mr. and Mrs. Andrews' school in Albany (N.Y.) discusses sermons, experiences at school, travel to Bridgeport and New Haven, and social life in Albany. The papers also include a copy of a school essay on politeness.
